Searched stolen car leads to Gun being seized in North Etobicoke PDF Print E-mail

On Tuesday, March 17, 2009, officers from the Gun and Gang Task Force were in the area of Catford Road when they observed a car with a driver and a passenger.

It is alleged that:

  • the vehicle was on file as stolen,

  • the car stopped in front of an address on Hill Garden Road, and uniform officers arrested the two men,

  • a search warrant was executed, as a result of the arrest, at a home on Catford Road,

  • a loaded .40 calibre handgun was seized.

Vladimir Duarte, 36; and Julio Soto, 22; both of Toronto, are each charged with:

  1. Possession of Property Obtained by Crime (over).

Julio Soto is additionally charged with:

  1. Possession of a Restricted Firearm with Ammunition,

  2. Careless Storage of a Firearm,

  3. Possession of a Firearm Knowing its Possession is Unauthorized,

  4. Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm,

  5. Possession of a Firearm Contrary to Prohibition Order.

Both men were scheduled to appear in court at 1000 Finch Avenue West, on Wednesday, March 18, 2009, room 306, 10 a.m.
