On Wednesday, March 11, 2009, at 6:52 a.m., police responded to a collision at the
intersection of Pine Valley Drive/Steeles Avenue West.

It is reported that:

  • two pedestrians began walking south across Steeles Avenue, in the east crosswalk, on a green light,
  • as they neared the centre of the road, they left the crosswalk in a southeast direction towards a TTC stop,
  • a ‘roll-off bin’ truck was southbound on Pine Valley Drive, attempting to turn eastbound on to Steeles Avenue West, when the truck struck both pedestrians.


A 58-year-old woman was pronounced dead at the scene. Her 14-year-old daughter
received minor injuries and was treated at the scene. The names of the victims are not being released.
