In the economic climate in which we are all currently stuck, starting any new business is a bit of a risk. No ones buying, every ones trying to sell and each industry seems to get hit systematically by financial uncertainty making any new business seem pointless and profitless. Or does it. . . The 'latest and greatest', seemingly untouchable industry in the economic crisis is GEOTHERMAL! The geothermal industry is revving its engine and ready to go! The trouble is, there isn't much gas in the tank. The industry is there, but there aren't enough installers to get it rolling. The need for geothermal installers is staggering! Start up in the industry can be extremely expensive but thanks to a company named Rigkits that has quickly changed. Rigkits has developed a Geothermal Drilling Rig KIT!. The unit is assembled on rubber crawler tracks with a 2.4m mast and a rotary gearbox and powered hydraulically with a 80hp diesel engine. The complete rig kit is less than half the cost of an assembled machine! Assembly is simply and maintenance is inexpensive. Finally, the answer to so many prayers! An affordable way to enter the Geothermal Industry! Rigkits and other geothermal drilling equipment manufactures can be found on The Geothermal Network at www.geothermalnetwork.com.

Geothermal seems to be the way to go. If you are concerned about the environment and want to save yourself some money then you should get this system installed at you house or business.

For new construction or where there may be difficulty bringing gas, electricity or oil to the home it may be feasible. For an existing installation I don't see it.
If you have NG or oil at your home then a high efficiency furnace - properly sized - would be more the way to go. It's all about how long it would take to recoup the change to geothermal. Afterwards, what is the cost of maintenance and repairs? How many HVAC companies are out there that are equipped to service these systems? Geothermal systems have been with us for decades and they still are relatively scarce in comparison with oil and gas, etc. If one does decide to go geothermal than DO YOUR HOMEWORK! Find a company with a good track record. Ask for references and go see some of their installs. Don't be shy to ask. If they're a reputable company they'll be more than happy to supply you names and addresses. Mike written by Elliott, February 25, 2009
Hello Mike,
You're right to say "Do your homework". If you are new to geothermal, these systems can seem expensive, and can they really be that much better? Let’s take a look at some of the facts. An 1,800square ft home could gain savings of $80 to $90 each month with a geothermal system instead of a standard gas-fired system. But although geothermal systems are not yet widespread, the industry continues to grow 25% to 30% each year! More and more HAVAC installers are getting into geothermal, any geothermal business directory will show you that. There are also many more companies dedicated to new and retrofit geothermal installations. Especially since the need for renewable energy has become a global crisis, many states/provinces are offering rebate and incentive programs for homeowners to "go green" with geothermal. Ontario Premier Dalton McGuinty, for example, has announced a $150 million rebate program. This Home Energy Retrofit Program provides up to $5,000CAD for home energy retrofits in Ontario. Environmentally friendly, cost effective and energy efficient geothermal systems are quickly becoming the new standard. Write comment
