Over the past couple of months the city workers have been working quite a bit on the traffic lights on Lake Shore Blvd in Etobicoke. I was under the impression that all they were doing was installing the count-down timers for the yellow lights. But yesterday driving along Lakeshore heading east, I was stopped at the lights at Kipling and saw that they've finally installed an advanced left turn signal there!
For years that intersection was the worst place to get a red light. You had to plan well in advance if you were coming to the red, because if there was anyone in front of you turning left, and you were in the left lane, it meant you would be waiting at least one or two additional light changes. Add on top of that the number of students crossing and the streetcar stopping there, it was a nightmare intersection.
It is about time they installed the advanced green! In retrospect, I don't know why it didn't happen years ago!
