An Etobicoke man faces several charges including impaired driving causing death after a horrific crash on the Queen Elizabeth Way early Tuesday morning killed a taxi driver.
Mohammed Rao, 59, was close to home in Mississauga after dropping off a fare from Pearson Airport around 1 a.m. when his taxi van was clipped by a BMW that zipped in and out of traffic on the westbound QEW west of Dixie Road.
Police say the BMW lost control, hit a Chrysler Sebring which sustained only minor damage, then flipped onto its roof and struck Rao's taxi van.
Rao's van hit the steel guardrail, flew through a fence, hit a pole and landed on the North Service Road. He was ejected. A coroner pronounced Rao dead at the scene.
The crash crumpled the taxi van.
Antoni Burianski has been charged with impaired driving causing death, dangerous operation of a motor vehicle causing death, criminal negligence causing death and over 80 milligrams involved in a motor vehicle collision with fatal.
Burianski appeared in a Brampton court Tuesday, and is scheduled to appear in court again Friday.
Witnesses are urged to call Const. Linda Stapleton at the OPP's Port Credit detachment at 905-278-6131.
